Citizen Dialogue Kit

The USME Citizen Dialogue Kit (CDK) is a specialized set of materials that provides a framework and a guide for community leaders, their representatives and a range of organizations at all levels. The CDK provides the guidance needed to conduct a 2-3 hour “mini-dialogue” in which participants can learn more about the issues and options for action, and can develop implementation strategies in which to engage.

The USME CDK includes several components:

  • Worksheets describing the purpose of the dialogue workshop, step-by-step guidelines for facilitating a small group discussion, and a post-workshop survey for collecting and tracking the participant responses and continuing to engage participants over time.
  • A Workbook, designed as a companion resource for the report of the USME Leadership Group, Changing Course: A New Direction for U.S. Relations with the Muslim World, that includes: an overview of the history of U.S.-Muslim relations; root causes of conflict; challenges to, and options for, improving relations; and other essential background information.
  • USME documentary video—available here

The USME CDK has been made available to a range of community engagement organizations, which can in turn provide the kits to their constituencies. The CDK posted here is available to local civic groups for download and use in conducting their own dialogues.

The U.S.-Muslim Engagement Project staff is available to provide support to organizations engaging in the civic dialogue and action, and to continue monitoring public response and the resulting activities, in order to gauge the impact of our intervention.
